What do our summer camps
Look like?

At Bushcraft Camps, children spend their days outdoors learning real skills: lighting a fire safely, building a shelter, tying knots that hold, finding their way with map and compass, and taking on the rock and the via ferrata. The car-free town of Saas-Fee, nestled in the heart of the Swiss Alps, is the perfect base for our young participants to have the camp experience of their lives!

Bushcraft Camps is a day camp: campers meet us every morning in Saas-Fee and go back to their families in the afternoon, so you arrange your own accommodation in the valley. Once a week, when the weather and campsite allow it, campers aged 8 and over can join an optional overnight in tents, with dinner and breakfast included.

Across the week, campers take part in bushcraft and survival workshops, fire craft and knife skills, rock climbing, via ferrata, mountain hikes, lake days, homemade boat races on the river, navigation games, crafts and team sports, with a plan B indoors if the weather turns.

International Summer
camp program

We welcome kids from 5 to 16 years old to discover the alpine environment and develop key skills on and off the mountain, from bushcraft and climbing to teamwork, independence and confidence.

Each day, we will endeavour to ensure that the children make the most of the mountain environment and more importantly, just have FUN!!

Two formats run side by side. Little Explorers (5 to 7) join us for the morning, from 09:30 to 12:45. The Full Day Adventure Camp (8 to 16) runs from 09:30 to 17:00/17:30, with a picnic lunch brought from home. Camp runs Monday to Friday: sign up for the full week or drop in for single days. The camp language is English, and our camp leaders also speak French, German, Spanish and Italian.

Our meeting point is outside Hotel Alpin in Saas-Fee, on the grass beside the volleyball court. Every day we share photos with families, so you can follow the adventure from wherever you are.

What makes our summer adventure camps different

Bushcraft Camps Methodology

Our camps are hands-on. Every day is built around a real skill or adventure: fire craft, safe knife handling, knots and emergency bivouacs, map and compass navigation, water filtration, building boats and racing them down the river, rock climbing, a via ferrata or a full survival day in the forest. The programme changes from week to week and adapts to the weather and local fire regulations: in a dry summer with a fire ban, fire sessions become safe alternatives such as homemade fire starters and upcycled can stoves. Children learn by doing, in small groups, with camp leaders who explain the why behind every step and then let them try for themselves.

Our camps are located in an adventure lover’s paradise. The Saas-Fee valley offers an ideal setting for campers to learn survival skills, climb on real rock, explore forests and alpine lakes such as Mattmark, and play all kinds of team sports. Nestled in the stunning Swiss Alps and surrounded by some of the highest mountains in the Alps, it is the perfect retreat from fast-paced daily life, allowing campers to reconnect with nature.

Saas-Fee stands out as a car-free town, offering our campers a distinctive opportunity to experience freedom in a secure environment. Summer temperatures are pleasant: warm enough for shorts during the day, with cooler mornings and the odd shower, which is exactly why we teach campers how to dress in layers for the mountains.

My daughter enjoyed this experience very much & both she & I were disappointed she couldn't attend any further days. Each day is a different, well curated experience all based in and around the local nature.
I also saw a friend who's daughter joined the group for older children & she also had a positive experience.
The instructors were helpful & attentive when I had queries & when I provided details of my daughters allergies. I felt very comfortable & confident leaving her with them (she is 5 year's old)
Lastly, my daughter met a girl within her group with whom she made an instant connection so that was an added bonus for us!

FAQ about summer camps in Saas-Fee

During summer, Saas-Fee experiences pleasant, sunny weather with daytime temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F). Mornings and evenings can be cooler, so bring layers. Expect occasional rain showers, so pack waterproof clothing as well, but generally this part of the Alps has a rather sunny microclimate and so great, reliable conditions for these camps.

The camp is about discovery and adventure. Campers learn practical outdoor skills (fire craft, safe knife handling, shelters, knots, navigation, water filtration, how to dress and pack for the mountains) alongside rock climbing, via ferrata and team sports. Along the way they build confidence, independence and teamwork, and make new friends and unforgettable memories in the outdoors.

For summer camps in Saas-Fee, pack layered clothing that can get dirty, a waterproof jacket, sturdy walking boots or robust sports shoes, a sun hat, sunglasses, high-factor sunscreen and spare socks, all in a small backpack your child can carry all day. Add a refillable water bottle (at least 1 litre) and swimwear in case of bad weather. Food is not included: every camper brings their own picnic from home, a snack for Little Explorers and lunch plus snacks for full-day campers. Swiss Army knives are welcome.

No. Camp runs Monday to Friday and you can book the full week or single days. Little Explorers (5 to 7) join us in the mornings only, while the Full Day Adventure Camp (8 to 16) runs all day.

The official camp language is English, ensuring easy and relaxed communication among campers from many countries. Our camp leaders also speak French, German, Spanish and Italian, so every child can get help in their own language when needed.

Camp runs Monday to Friday. We meet every morning at 09:30 outside Hotel Alpin in Saas-Fee, on the grass beside the volleyball court (on the first Monday, from 09:00 to meet the team). Little Explorers are collected at 12:45. Full-day campers finish between 17:00 and 17:30 depending on the day’s activity, and we confirm the pick-up time in the families’ WhatsApp group. There is no camp at weekends.

The camp is designed for children aged 5 to 16, in two formats: Little Explorers (5 to 7) and the Full Day Adventure Camp (8 to 16), where challenges are adapted to each age. We can make exceptions on a case-by-case basis.

Yes. From drop-off to pick-up, campers are with our camp leaders at all times, in small groups. Every day has its own programme, and when the weather turns we switch to a plan B so the day stays active and safe.

Most kids attending the camps come from diverse international backgrounds. This mix of cultures and languages creates a unique environment for learning, encouraging cultural exchange, and making lifelong friendships with campers from around the world.

Bushcraft Camps is a day camp, so families arrange their own accommodation in the Saas valley. Once a week, when the weather and campsite allow it, campers aged 8 and over can join an optional overnight in tents, with dinner, breakfast and a night game included. We lend sleeping bags and mats to anyone who needs them. The overnight is booked separately with a small supplement.
