This camp is tailored for young children. Kids aged 5 to 7 join us every morning from 09:30 to 12:45 to explore the forest and the mountains around Saas-Fee, as part of a small, caring group of peers and camp leaders who look after them at all times. The perfect Summer Camp!

Saas-Fee is an ideal location for younger children to enjoy this amazing summer camp. This car-free town, nestled in the heart of the Alps, offers a wonderful opportunity for kids to experience a bit of extra freedom that they can’t enjoy back home.

Our camp leaders are with the children at all times, turning every activity into a game. The atmosphere is warm and playful, and younger kids come home tired, proud and full of stories.

With small groups, we can address the specific needs of each child. We teach them their first bushcraft and mountain skills through games and team challenges, always fostering teamwork and camaraderie.

What are the activities
for young kids?

Little Explorers enjoy a new adventure every morning, and no two weeks are the same. Some examples from last summer: welcome games, knots and building a bivouac shelter, mini navigation games with a treasure map, a first rock climbing session, a flora detectives hunt to discover the plants of the valley and building eco boats to race down the river. Fire safety, survival basics and learning how to dress in layers for the mountains are part of the fun.

Each morning ends at 12:45, so children bring their own snack from home and a water bottle. On special days, such as a trip to Mattmark lake, we may invite the group to stay for the afternoon as an optional full day. The programme adapts to the weather, with indoor games when needed.

We adapt our camps to children from all environments and backgrounds, ensuring that every child feels included and engaged. Our experienced instructors focus on creating a fun and safe atmosphere where young adventurers can explore nature, learn new skills, and make lasting friendships.

Parents can rest assured knowing that safety is our top priority. Our staff members are trained in first aid, and we maintain a low camper-to-staff ratio to ensure personalized attention for every child.

At our organization, we prioritize the safety of all children in our care. We ensure that every activity is designed with safety in mind, utilizing age-appropriate equipment to create a secure environment. Our low child-to-instructor ratio allows us to provide personalized attention, ensuring that each child receives the support they need.

We believe that a safe environment starts with well-trained staff. Our team undergoes comprehensive training on child safety protocols, which includes first aid and emergency procedures. This training equips our instructors with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond effectively in any situation, ensuring the well-being of every child.

We offer a wide range of interactive activities at our camps designed to captivate and engage children in numerous ways. Our program includes fun games, captivating storytelling sessions, and hands-on experiences such as thrilling nature scavenger hunts, rock climbing on real crags, and dynamic team-building exercises that are sure to keep every child involved and entertained.

Furthermore, we place a strong emphasis on fostering creativity and encouraging exploration through a variety of arts and crafts projects that are inspired by the beautiful mountain environment surrounding us. These activities not only promote learning but also allow children to express themselves artistically.

Learning through Adventure

We integrate engaging lessons about local wildlife, plants, and the environment into a variety of activities. Through playful approaches, campers learn important concepts related to ecology and geography, fostering a deeper understanding of the natural world.

In addition to environmental education, we emphasize skill development by focusing on physical abilities such as balance, coordination, and teamwork. Campers participate in climbing, hiking, and group games that encourage social interaction and cooperation, helping them build essential life skills while having fun.

My daughter enjoyed this experience very much & both she & I were disappointed she couldn't attend any further days. Each day is a different, well curated experience all based in and around the local nature.
I also saw a friend who's daughter joined the group for older children & she also had a positive experience.
The instructors were helpful & attentive when I had queries & when I provided details of my daughters allergies. I felt very comfortable & confident leaving her with them (she is 5 year's old)
Lastly, my daughter met a girl within her group with whom she made an instant connection so that was an added bonus for us!

FAQ about summer camps in Saas-Fee

During summer, Saas-Fee experiences pleasant, sunny weather with daytime temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F). Mornings and evenings can be cooler, so bring layers. Expect occasional rain showers, so pack waterproof clothing as well, but generally this part of the Alps has a rather sunny microclimate and so great, reliable conditions for these camps.

The camp is about discovery and adventure. Campers learn practical outdoor skills (fire craft, safe knife handling, shelters, knots, navigation, water filtration, how to dress and pack for the mountains) alongside rock climbing, via ferrata and team sports. Along the way they build confidence, independence and teamwork, and make new friends and unforgettable memories in the outdoors.

For summer camps in Saas-Fee, pack layered clothing that can get dirty, a waterproof jacket, sturdy walking boots or robust sports shoes, a sun hat, sunglasses, high-factor sunscreen and spare socks, all in a small backpack your child can carry all day. Add a refillable water bottle (at least 1 litre) and swimwear in case of bad weather. Food is not included: every camper brings their own picnic from home, a snack for Little Explorers and lunch plus snacks for full-day campers. Swiss Army knives are welcome.

No. Camp runs Monday to Friday and you can book the full week or single days. Little Explorers (5 to 7) join us in the mornings only, while the Full Day Adventure Camp (8 to 16) runs all day.

The official camp language is English, ensuring easy and relaxed communication among campers from many countries. Our camp leaders also speak French, German, Spanish and Italian, so every child can get help in their own language when needed.

Camp runs Monday to Friday. We meet every morning at 09:30 outside Hotel Alpin in Saas-Fee, on the grass beside the volleyball court (on the first Monday, from 09:00 to meet the team). Little Explorers are collected at 12:45. Full-day campers finish between 17:00 and 17:30 depending on the day’s activity, and we confirm the pick-up time in the families’ WhatsApp group. There is no camp at weekends.

The camp is designed for children aged 5 to 16, in two formats: Little Explorers (5 to 7) and the Full Day Adventure Camp (8 to 16), where challenges are adapted to each age. We can make exceptions on a case-by-case basis.

Yes. From drop-off to pick-up, campers are with our camp leaders at all times, in small groups. Every day has its own programme, and when the weather turns we switch to a plan B so the day stays active and safe.

Most kids attending the camps come from diverse international backgrounds. This mix of cultures and languages creates a unique environment for learning, encouraging cultural exchange, and making lifelong friendships with campers from around the world.

Bushcraft Camps is a day camp, so families arrange their own accommodation in the Saas valley. Once a week, when the weather and campsite allow it, campers aged 8 and over can join an optional overnight in tents, with dinner, breakfast and a night game included. We lend sleeping bags and mats to anyone who needs them. The overnight is booked separately with a small supplement.
